Court Rejects Racketeering Claims in COVID-Era Electronics Deal, Finding AI-Fabricated Citations and Abuses of Process

MIAMI, FL – July 22, 2025 – In a decisive legal victory, attorneys from Bast Amron LLP successfully defended agents of Promark Electronics Inc., a Canadian electronics manufacturer, against a series of meritless federal lawsuits filed by Florida-based disinfectant sprayer company ByoPlanet International LLC and its CEO.

U.S. District Judge David S. Leibowitz dismissed the lawsuits which falsely alleged racketeering, conspiracy, and fraud involving a $16 million commercial contract for electronic components used in disinfectant delivery units at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bast Amron litigation team led by Jeffrey Bast, Tanisha Wright, and Katerina (Katie) Tonkinson, and supported by Senior Paralegal Maria Desvergunat vigorously defended Promark and its agents against unfounded claims in lawsuits that the court ultimately deemed a “train wreck.” In a scathing opinion, the judge found that the filings were riddled with fictitious legal citations generated by artificial intelligence, violating the plaintiffs’ counsel’s professional obligations and undermining judicial integrity.

“These lawsuits were nothing more than a desperate effort to delay our enforcement of a valid multi-million dollar judgment,” said Jeffrey Bast, who represents Promark in the ongoing litigation. “Our clients acted appropriately at all times, and the court saw through the noise. We are pleased to deliver this result.”

This ruling follows efforts by ByoPlanet and its CEO to frustrate enforcement of the Canadian judgment in Florida, despite losing in both Quebec and Florida state court. Bast Amron continues to represent Promark in enforcing its judgments and defending against “frivolous counter-suits in a continuing pattern of avoidance.”

This win reinforces Bast Amron’s reputation for dismantling baseless litigation with strategic focus and ethical rigor, particularly in cross-border disputes involving complex commercial agreements and executive misconduct.
