MIAMI, FL – October 13, 2016 – For several years Brian L. Tannebaum has served as outside General Counsel to Bast Amron, advising the firm on ethics and professionalism issues.   The firm is now pleased to announce that Mr. Tannebaum will join the firm as Special Counsel to head the firm’s new Ethics, Professional Responsibility and White Collar Defense Practice; he will continue to serve as the firm’s General Counsel.

“For many years, we have had great respect and admiration for Brian,” said Co-Founder Jeffrey Bast.  “As our outside counsel, he has given some sage advice to our lawyers.  We are now thrilled to have him join us and very excited about the new dimension his experience and practice will add to the firm.”

A newspaper reporter once wrote that Brian Tannebaum is “the lawyer that lawyers go to when they find themselves in hot water.” Now in his 22nd year of practice, Brian’s clients are either lawyers trying to remain lawyers, law students trying to become lawyers, law firms seeking ethics opinions and compliance with various rules, regulations and statutes, or individuals and corporations facing state or federal criminal charges.  He has been counsel in over 50 Florida Bar matters at The Florida Supreme Court level, served as an expert witness, and represented law firms of all sizes from solo practitioners to large national firms.

Brian is also a frequent speaker and writer about the law and legal ethics.  His 2014 book, The Practice: Brutal Truths About Lawyers and Lawyering, is a top 10 best-selling book published by the American Bar Association. He is a former columnist for Above the Law, and his professional ethics blog, mylawlicense.com was honored as one of the top 100 legal blogs by the ABA.  He has spoken about ethics to bar associations and other local, state, and national organizations throughout the United States.

Brian has served as President of the Florida Association of Bar Defense Lawyers, a Member of the Federal Ad Hoc Committee on Attorney Admissions, Peer Review and Attorney Grievance for the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida, President of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Member of the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Criminal Law Section, the Florida Bar Criminal Procedure Rules Committee, and as a Member and Vice-Chair of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee. He has also been appointed as a Special Master in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in and for Miami-Dade County, Florida.  He is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell and listed in Best Lawyers in America.
