JEFFREY BAST QUOTED IN LAW 360:“FLA. SANITIZER CO. FACES PENALTIES OVER FAKE AI LEGAL CITATIONS”

June 4th, 2025 - Posted in In The News, Jeffrey P. Bast

MIAMI, FL – June 5, 2025 – Bast Amron partner Jeffrey Bast was quoted in a Law360 article, “Fla. Sanitizer Co. Faces Penalties Over Fake AI Legal Citations.”

Bast told Law360 in an email on Monday that his client is incurring costs for addressing frivolous claims and double-checking citations that do no exist.

“It is troubling enough when my client must incur the cost of addressing frivolous claims and arguments, but this reckless conduct exacerbates the problem by forcing my client to shoulder the burden of work the opposing party has failed to do,” Bast said. “We are all taught in law school to verify our case citations. The advent of artificial intelligence did not displace this rudimentary requirement. My client should not have to pay us to check their cases for them.”
