Katie Tonkinson

Katerina “Katie” Tonkinson is a talented attorney who joined Bast Amron after previously serving as a summer associate at the firm in 2023. Katie focuses on commercial litigation and insolvency litigation. In these areas, she is a level-headed advisor and creative thinker, advocating on behalf of her clients with pride and compassion.

Katie earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, where she distinguished herself academically, graduating magna cum laude. Katie was actively involved in the University of Miami Law Review, serving as a Student Notes and Comments Editor, and earned multiple scholarships, including the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine PL Scholarship. Her academic excellence was further recognized with numerous awards, such as the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Civil Procedure I, Legal Communication & Research II, Bankruptcy, Commercial Law: UCC, Corporate Finance, Constitutional Law II, Labor Law, Legal Research Techniques, and Civil Rights in the Supreme Court, and the Dean’s Certificate of Achievement Award in Contracts and U.S. Constitutional Law I.

Before law school, Katie graduated summa cum laude from Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. Her undergraduate years were marked by her involvement in various honor societies and leadership roles, including serving as President of Omicron Delta Kappa.

Katie’s professional experience includes working as a Legal Intern Associate at Aristocrat Technologies, Inc., where she gained valuable experience drafting and reviewing contracts, conducting legal research, and assisting in various areas of law, including international jurisdictions and intellectual property. Her legal acumen is complemented by her strong communication skills and her dedication to excellence, making her a valuable addition to the Bast Amron team.

In her spare time, Katie enjoys playing multiple musical instruments and creative writing.

  • Special litigation counsel to the Liquidating Trustee of the Kalera Liquidating Trust, retained to investigate, commence, and prosecute potential claims against third parties and the former officers, directors, and insiders
  • Special litigation counsel to The Stapleton Group, Inc., in its capacity as receiver of PSW Real Estate, LLC, retained to investigate, commence, and prosecute potential claims against third parties
  • Special litigation counsel to the Liquidation Trust of Vital Pharmaceuticals, Inc. retained to prosecute claims against the former officers, directors, and insiders
  • Special litigation counsel to the Chapter 7 trustee of the bankruptcy estate of JDi Data Corporation, retained to investigate, commence, and prosecute potential claims against third parties
  • Special litigation counsel to the Chapter 7 trustee of the bankruptcy estate of Aerotech Miami Inc. d/b/a iAero Tech, retained to investigate, commence, and prosecute claims against the former officers, directors, and insiders
