The Friday Whine BY BRIAN L. TANNEBAUM March 23, 2018

Greetings, The Friday Whine is a casual email to friends and colleagues and contains three things: An ethics update, a legal profession update, and wine recommendation. If you see text in blue, it is a link to an article or information.

Ethics

Too Many Fleas

The old adage “you sleep with dogs, you get fleas, ended the career of this Florida lawyer yesterday. He hired a criminal, who then criminaled, the lawyer kept him around, lied to a federal probation officer, and while he personally paid back a million dollars, the Supreme Court of Florida rejected the Referee’s recommendation of a two-year suspension, and ordered disbarment.

Legal Profession

What’s With Alan Dershowitz and Donald Trump?

This must be what happens when liberal criminal law professors from Harvard who spent some time defending O.J Simpson in his murder case retire and move to Florida, they start defending a Republican president who is under investigation. For a while now lawyers and pundits have taken note of Professor Dershowitz’ support of the President, and now his former student, Jeffrey Toobin, is asking the question.

WINE

Toast to Innocence

In addition to practicing law and recommending wine on a weekly basis, I serve as Chair-elect of the Innocence Project of Florida. For the second time, I am hosting A Toast to Innocence, a wine-themed fundraiser at my home with all sales of wine and proceeds from the silent auction going to help exonerate the wrongfully convicted. Florida leads the nation in people wrongfully sent to death row and I hope you’ll consider grabbing one of the last few tickets to this event. The invitation is attached to today’s Whine, and the link for tickets is here.
