Greetings, The Friday Whine is a casual email to friends and colleagues and contains two things: An ethics update, and a wine recommendation. If you see text in blue, it is a link to an article or information.

Ethics

The Privacy Of All The Michael Cohens

For the Trump haters out there, lawyer Michael Avenatti is a minor folk hero with a pretty interesting background. The lawyer for Stormy Daniels is on every cable TV news show, every day, every night, hammering away about “what’s coming next.

Well the last “next” was a release of bank records for Michael Cohen, showing payments from major U.S. corporations, and some Russian guy. The problem is that also included was the personal bank records of various other Michael Cohens.

One example: “Among them was a $980 payment from two individuals in Kenya, Netanal Cohen and Stav Hayun, to a Michael Cohen. NBC News spoke to the man who received those funds, and he said Avenatti has the wrong guy.

“I am an Avionic technician in El Al airlines. So, no, not a lawyer,” said Michael Cohen, 26, from Ashdod, Israel. “No, I never talk with or meet Trump.”

This is what happens when a lawyer is moving at lightning speed, spending more time on TV talking about a case than actually sitting at a desk looking at a case. Avenatti is probably going to get sued, by several of these other Michael Cohens, and is looking at a Bar complaint on various counts – starting with 8.4 – engaging in conduct including misrepresentation.

But I don’t think this will slow him down, in fact, it appears he’s moving right along.

Wine

NOTE: That “40 Ounce Rose” I recommended last week may be sold out at Wolfe’s but also available at Whole Foods.

Here’s another Mother’s Day white for you.

I’m not a Chardonnay fan, but this French Chardonnay (Pouilly Fuisse – pronounced “Puu-lee-fuu-say”) is excellent. For $18 at Total Wine, you can’t go wrong. Mom, Grandma, even your Mother-in-Law will love it.
