MIAMI, FL – January 13, 2026 – The Bast Amron team, led by Partner Jaime Leggett, Founder and Managing Partner Jeffrey Bast, and Senior Paralegal Jorge Miranda, Jr., served as co-counsel to the Cinemex Debtors in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. The Debtors operate a chain of movie theaters across the country. The Debtors elected to pursue relief under Subchapter V of Chapter 11, which – among other things – permits equity holders to retain their equity and allows for confirmation without any impaired accepting classes. A creditor sought the imposition of an official committee of unsecured creditors, objected to the Debtors’ eligibility under Subchapter V, and objected to plan confirmation.
Bast Amron and co-counsel successfully obtained court orders finding that an unsecured creditors’ committee did not need to be appointed and, after substantial discovery and an evidentiary hearing, that the Debtors qualified for Subchapter V. After substantial negotiations, Bast Amron was able to obtain agreement from the creditor – as well as other objecting creditors – to the reorganization plan, which was confirmed on a wholly consensual and uncontested basis. These disputes involved novel issues under Subchapter V and required creative problem-solving as well as a deep understanding of the Debtors’ business. The outcomes reflect the firm’s strategic approach to high-stakes disputes and its ability to deliver results in challenging bankruptcy situations.
